Cathedral of St. Stanislaus the BishopXIX ct.

A monument of architecture of local importance (security number 173 M)

Catholic community in our town did not have their own shrine for a long time after the failed Polish Uprising in 1830-1831. Only over the time, upon request of Catholic bishop Pyvnytskyi and efforts of the local priest Jozef Shchepanovskyi in the south part of town a place for building the Catholic cathedral was allocated. The temple was built for 3 years in the style of late classicism at the expense of the Kremenets Catholic community and by state subsidy.

The consecration of the temple took place in 1857 in honor of St. Stanislaus.

The facade of the temple is decorated with two symmetrical towers, the pediment is crowned by the sculpture of Mother of God. The architect of the temple was Olexandr Kraft.

A monument to Juliush Slovatskyi, made by the famous Polish sculptor Wacław Szymanowski, was placed inside the church. On the left rear wall of the temple, the sculpture was mounted secretly, because at that time Slovatskyi’s name was forbidden. It is an interesting composition of dark marble with the quote of the romantic writer, from his own work named «Will». Thanks to this monument the Catholic temple in Kremenets was never closed and was always used for religious purposes.

The temple has preserved an organ made in 1886, this is the only surviving temple organ in Ternopil region that is still used. At the entrance to the temple, on the right in the arch there is a white marble composition depicting the figure of the Virgin Mary. This is a bowl made by Volyn sculpture Victor Brodskyi.

In the altar there are interesting pseudo stained-glass windows, probably Czech, mounted in two side windows.A large canvas is mounted above the altar, representing a copy of the “Sistine Madonna”, performed by a graduate of the Kremenets Lyceum Arkadiush Gitske.

The church contains some items from the ancient Jesuit and Franciscan monasteries.
