Old Pochaiv

There is no information about the exact date of the foundation of Pochaiv as a settlement, but there is an inventory of the 30s of the XVII century, which mentions the founding of the Tarnovskyi family of New Pochaiv, along with the existing ancient Pochaiv, which began to be called Old Pochaiv. The first written mention refers to 1442.

Today it is a village that united several farms with separate names. In the village centre along a road beat springs and the stream flows. According to legend, the monks of the Pochaiv Monastery, led by their first abbot, took water for household needs from the spring.

The Tryzrubna, single-top wooden Intercession Church, built in 1643, has been preserved here. A monument of architecture of national importance (security number 673 N). It is obvious that the original temple was three-domed, but during the reconstruction in 1746 it was rebuilt into a single-domed one. The temple is typically three-story, with babynets, navas and absids. From the south, east and north, wooden galleries stretch around the temple, additionally protecting the wooden walls from the effects of precipitation. Outside, the temple is painted with blue oil paint.

Carved debt inscriptions of the XVIII century are preserved on the outer wall. One of the inscriptions was made in 1752, the other – on January 5, 1789, which indicates the debt of Yurko Antonyuk, which is “7-80-100.”

In front of the temple on the west side stands a two-tier wooden bell tower of the same period of construction as the temple. Around the church are the remains of an ancient cemetery with interesting stone crosses.
