Residential building of the XVIII century "Cossack"

A monument of architecture of national importance (security number 670 N).

A special page in the history of urban architecture of late modernity is occupied by residential monuments, a striking example of which is an elegant wooden house of the XVIII century located on Bazarna Street.

Among the population there are different names of this building, most often there are names «philistine»and «Cossack». Despite such a romanticized name, this building has nothing to do with the heroic Cossack era of Ukrainian history.

The wooden manor house of the attic type with pronounced features of classicism is only a surviving copy of «old suite» architecture, which was built by the local gentry in the late XVIII – early XIX centuries.

A one-storey house of frame construction, with an attic floor and a four-pitched roof, covered with shingles, which are installed on the ceiling outlet beams, forming a half-metre canopy. On the western and eastern facades there are balconies resting on columns.

The residential building of the attic type was one of many similar structures of the central historical part of the town and almost the only one that survived the hard times of the Second World War and the Nazi occupation of the town itself, when in 1942, as a result of a large-scale fire, most of the wooden structures of the center of Kremenets were destroyed.

In 1976, the residential building was restored, and in our time the «Prosvita» society functions in its premises.
